Title:Helping GSP students get the most out of their summers

Meet Shakila Guevara Stahl (B’15), an alumna who took part in the Georgetown Scholars Program (GSP). The program enriched her Hilltop experience, helping her face some challenges that she didn’t anticipate and prepare for a career after Georgetown.

She and her husband, Dr. Stephen Stahl, recently established the Stahl Summer Scholars Program Endowed Fund to support summer experiential learning opportunities for GSP students, most of whom are the first in their families to attend college.

“I really feel like this is my calling: to help support Georgetown students, especially first-generation college students, to thrive and to succeed,” says Stahl.

One recipient, Chloe Smith (N’26), says the funding enabled her to take part in an externship at Washington Hospital Center without worrying about housing costs or transportation. “My head was completely in it,” she says.

That work experience, combined with her nursing degree, will help her fulfill her dream of becoming a midwife.
